And even though their Union was <br />engaged in a negative campaign against him that included repeated personal attacks, when <br />on duty the men and women of the University City Fire Department perform their job in a <br />professional manner. He stated that he appreciates the comments, as well as the letter that <br />he had received from Mr. Kurt Becker, Vice President of Local 2665, which has been made <br />public and states, “Rather than rise above the rhetoric that can be associated with elections I <br />allowed myself to be influenced by the atmosphere and in retrospect I do regret that my <br />comments may have exacerbated the situation. I am cognizant that there is work that needs <br />to be done to rebuild the relationship. I do hope that you will see my overture for what it is <br />and that you will accept both my apology and the sincerity with which it is given.” He stated <br />that his response at the time and now publicly, is that we all live and work in the same <br />community and he welcomes Mr. Becker as a spokesman for his organization and also as <br />an individual. Mr. Kraft stated that he welcomes and appreciates Mr. Becker’s letter as a <br />first step towards reconciliation. <br /> <br />Ms. Carr stated that she had received numerous emails however there was one email from a <br />resident who had asked not to use her last name because she was afraid of retaliation. She <br />stated that she has always said that if retribution were on the menu that personally, she <br />would be eating it for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but she does understand why so many <br />people are concerned. Ms. Carr stated that the letter reads as follows: “Dear Mr. Carr (sic), <br />I am writing to ask you to help stop the foolish, childish and petty situation between <br />University City and its firefighters. These men and women have the right to political speech, <br />were not campaigning on City time, and are vital to the protection of all of us in this town. <br />There are many more important issues for you, the Mayor and the Council to take up on <br />behalf of the people. This suspension is actively seeking to harm the City and its people. <br />Surely the Council and the Mayor are adult enough to be criticized without retaliation of the <br />sort, sincerely Elizabeth, 7828 Gannon Avenue.” Ms. Carr stated that she believes that this <br />letter reflects a lot of what people feel. Can we not just get back to business? <br /> <br />J. UNFINISHED BUSINESS <br /> <br />BILLS <br />1. <br />Bill 9225 <br /> – An ordinance approving a final development plan for proposed renovations to <br />Crown Center for Senior Living located at 8348 – 8350 Delcrest Drive in the PD-M Planned <br />Development Mixed-use zoning district. Per the request of Mayor Welsch the ordinance was <br />read for the second and third time. <br /> <br />Mr. Glickert moved to approve Bill 9225, and was seconded by Mr. Sharpe. <br /> <br />Roll Call vote was: <br />AYES: <br />Mr. Price, Ms. Carr, Mr. Kraft, Mr. Crow, Mr. Glickert, Mr. Sharpe and Mayor Welsch. <br />NAYS: <br /> none <br /> <br />Bill 9225 carried unanimously and became Ordinance Number 6955. <br /> <br />K.
