Session 1519, Minutes Page 4
May 16, 1990
(me
4010 Library (page C-94) . The City Manager said the Library is preparing a
report which will go to Council this Friday. Mayor Majerus said the Library
budget can be discussed at the last budget meeting on May 23.
MISCELLANEOUS
LAND US
Mr. Schocmer asked Mr. 011endorff to find out how it might be possible to re-
cycle old mercury batteries and other items which people have trouble dispos-
ing of.
In response to Mr. Price, Mr. 011endorff said a year from now, if the City's
debt is paid off, there will be an additional $200,000 (no longer needed for
debt service) to cover inflation and perhaps a small employee raise; also, the
fund balance will be $1.4 million, which the Finance Director feels should be
no lower.
There was brief discussion about city-school cooperation, with Mr. 011endorff
commenting that he and the school superintendent discuss current problems, but
do little formal planning together. Mrs. Thompson pointed out that the public
is sometimes misinformed about certain items, for example the tennis courts
on Hanley Road which are in such poor condition—most think they are owned by
the City, but they actually belong to the School District. It was noted that
it is sometimes difficult finding ways of enhancing public awareness.
Mayor Majerus said there was a vacancy on the Uniformed Employees Pension
Board, and the firefighters nominated someone who resigned from the board
eight months ago. The other person who ran for the position received fewer
votes but would make a good member, she believed, and recommended that he be
appointed at the Council meeting on May 21st. Mr. 011endorff concurred with
this recommendation, pointing out that it was up to Council to make the ap-
pointment.
mt../.4.A.,
Dolores A. Miller
City Clerk
