Session 1529, Minutes Page 8 <br /> October 1, 1990 <br /> (Ime <br /> that designates only the front facade of the building as historic. <br /> Mr. Schoomer said the Special Business District Board of Directors will meet <br /> in two weeks, and he asked that their input be sought and included in the leg- <br /> islation. Mayor Majerus felt the bill preparation should not be delayed, but <br /> said their comments will be welcome, and the bill can be amended if necessary. <br /> ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> Mayor Majerus said University City has been named a winner of the 1990 Gover- <br /> nor's Town Treescape ca petition, and that the City's entry was judged best in <br /> the entire state from cities over 20,000. She noted that City Forester Norma <br /> Bonham will go to Columbia on October 29th to receive the award for the City. <br /> Mayor Majerus said Kingsland Park, University City's newest park, will be ded- <br /> icated on Sunday, October 7 at 3 p.m. She hoped all present will attend the <br /> dedication ceremony. <br /> The Mayor noted that University City was extremely prominent in nearly every <br /> category of the Riverfront Times annual voting issue that designates "The Best <br /> of " Some of the places mentioned were Paul's Books, Meli-Melo, D- <br /> Zine, Blueberry Hill, Brandt's, Riddle's Penultimate; the City also has one of <br /> the best house tours, and the Delmar Loop was voted one of the best places to <br /> watch people. <br /> Mayor Majerus reminded councilmembers that same of them had outstanding ap- <br /> pointments to make to various boards and commissions, as detailed in several <br /> memos from the City Clerk. <br /> Mrs. Thompson said said there would be a parade on Sunday, October 7 to honor F <br /> Bernard Gilkey, a former University City student who is now playing for the <br /> St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. She noted that Mr. Gilkey is not only an <br /> outstanding player, but a fine human being as well. <br /> Mrs. Thompson said she just returned from the Congressional Black Caucus meet- <br /> ing in Washington, D.
