PROCLAMATION <br /> WHEREAS, alcohol and other drug abuse in this nation has resulted <br /> in inmmerable problems of human, community, social and economic <br /> dimensions, and <br /> WHEREAS, the demand for illegal drugs is a pervasive problem that <br /> affects all segments of our society, and <br /> WHEREAS, it is imperative that visible, unified prevention educa- <br /> tion efforts by community members be continued to reduce the demand for <br /> drugs, and <br /> WHEREAS, the University City Police Department and the School <br /> District of University City are participating in the National Red Ribbon <br /> Campaign, sponsored by the National Federation of Parents for Drug Free <br /> Youth, and <br /> WHEREAS, a week-long series of drug prevention programs and activi- <br /> ties will take place within the schools, and <br /> WHEREAS, business, government, law enforcement, and individuals <br /> will demonstrate their commitment to drug-free, healthy lifestyles by <br /> wearing and displaying red ribbons during this week-long campaign, and <br /> WHEREAS, the National Red Ribbon Campaign will be celebrated in <br /> every community in America during "Red Ribbon Week," October 21-28, <br /> 1990, and President and Mrs. Bush are the national Honorary Chairs, <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE 1T PROCLAIMED that the Mayor and City Council of <br /> the City of UniversityCity ty dohereby support the week of October 21-28, <br /> 1990, as <br /> RED RIBBON WEEK <br /> and encourage its citizens to participate in drug prevention education <br /> activities, making a visible statement that we are strongly committed <br /> itted <br /> to a drug free community. <br /> BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED that the Mayor and City Coil of the <br /> City of University City encourage all citizens to pledge: MY CHOICE. ... <br /> DRUG FREE. <br /> Ma , City A4rsity City <br /> ATTEST: <br /> City Clerk <br />
