To Mayor Janet Majeru~ and members of the City Council:

Monday, January 11, was a very special day for U City in

touching framed Proclamation written by Mary
Jane Schaefer, Susan Hopper and myself, Mary Ann Shaw, was
unexpected but deeply appreciated by each of us. We were
overwhelmed at the time and feel we did not adequately express the
gratitude we feel to those who were present and involved in the
planning and presentation. They included many wonderful volunteer
friends whose ideas, support and hard work have made our labors
easier and our efforts rewarding. Susan White, who presented us
with lovely flowers and is my neighbor and good friend, has given
so much to University City Beautification CoF~nittee and I know she
was more than a little responsible for the idea of this special
recognition. Also present were members of our Parks Department and
our City Forester, Norma Bonham. To them and to Ewald Winker, Park
Maintenance Superintendent, and other employees of Parks and
Forestry Departments, we owe so much gratitude for their generous
and kind assistance and thoughtful efforts on our behalf. We can
not imagine a more supportive, caring and cooperative working
relationship, and we are very grateful to the people who work for
our city. This support and cooperation also characterizes our
contacts with all other University City departments - from Finance
to City Planning. There have been many fine individuals who have
given time, effort and talent on our behalf and for their many
kindnesses we are so thankful. University City has been a
wonderful place to live and we are proud to call it our home.
There has been great pleasure in getting to know more of its fine
citizens and its very special city employees - and in working with
all of them to bring the beauty of flowers into our community.

We believe sincerely and earnestly that in this time of
anxiety, hardship, sadness and pain that nature's beauty brings
healing and hope and working in nature brings us together.

Thank you all for helping us to live this belief.

"If I had but two loaves of bread,
I would sell one and b~ Hyacinths,
for they would feed my soul."

The Koran
