and a post-meeting with members of the City to determine what they can do to make things
better. Ms. Jones stated that the University City Alumni Association has requested a meeting
with City officials with the hope of a meaningful dialogue, as the Alumni Association is willing to
work with University City in order to move this event forward in the future. Ms. Jones welcomed
any suggestions by Council and stated that she would appreciate hearing any comments that they
might have.

P.
COUNCIL COMMENTS
Dr. Carr made the following comments:

A subsequent investigation to determine the meaning of “The gang of five,” revealed an
article in the St. Louis American that addressed the 2006 U-City election wherein Mr. Price
was quoted as saying, “We are seeing things we have not seen before, shadowy
executive sessions, rumors, scandals, a lot of people are upset and worried”. In this
instance Mr. Price was eluding to what some have termed “The gang of four,” on City
Council, and not the Chinese political system.

At no time has Mr. Gerald Greiman ever been her attorney.

Dr. Carr stated that she does not believe that just because an individual makes something a part
of the record that it gives anyone else the right to talk about it. She stated that she had come to
the conclusion that the release of the employee’s record had been mishandled based on the
advice of the City Attorney.

Mr. Crow hoped the Alumni Association will be provided an opportunity to have a meaningful

discussion with this City’s administration. Mr. Crow stated that he is concerned that many of
his colleagues have created an atmosphere in which Mr. Walker seems to be able to go
unfettered. He stated it is time for this Council to opine on what constitutes appropriate and
inappropriate conduct as it relates to the position of City Manager and City politics.

Mayor Welsch reminded everyone of the following events:

The Lofts of Washington University opened this past week.

The United Provisions Grocery Store opens today in the Loop.

The new Goodwill Store located on Olive will open on Thursday. Councilmember Sharpe
will be attending on her behalf for the ribbon cutting.

Mr. Jennings stated that last Tuesday the City administration and the School District worked
together to conduct National Night Out and a Back to School Rally that was held at the McNair
Administration Building. The House of Favor located on Woodson and Lackland will also be
rd
hosting a Back to School celebration on August 23 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Q.
ADJOURNMENT

Mayor Shelley Welsch adjourned the meeting at 8:04 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Joyce Pumm

City Clerk, MRCC/CMC

10
