Session 1783 - Budget Meeting
May 17, 2000

Mr. Ollendorff recommended increasing the $10,000 straight term life insurance policy for
all full time employees to $25,000. This increase will only cost the City $8,000. The
sense of Council was to approve this request.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION:

Mr. Ollendorff recommended providing deferred compensation for his higher level staff. It
will help with the recruitment process, as well as being a much more common place fringe
benefit. Council agreed.

DISABILITY BENEFITS:

Mr. Ollendorff recommended instituting disability insurance. He would rather bring these
ideas up with the pension boards, because they have adequate funds, rather than Council.
Council agreed.

PARAMEDIC LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

Paramedics need $3,000 a year for education allowance, since the state is increasing its
requirements. Council agreed.

VACATION INCREASE FOR 5 - 10 YEAR EMPLOYEES

Mr. Ollendorff recommended adding one day of vacation to 5 - 10 year employees, for a
total of 3 weeks and 1 day. Responding to Mr. Sharpe, Mr. Ollendorff said there would be
very few problems with this, as far as shortages of workers. Council agreed.

COST OF LIVING INCREASE FOR EMPLOYEES:

Mr. Ollendorff recommends a 3% cost of living adjustment for all classifications of
employees. Council agreed.

RECLASSIFICATION OF POSITIONS:

Mr. Ollendorff recommends moving the Purchasing Specialist, the Secretary to the City
Manager, the Automotive Service Attendant, about a dozen account clerks, the Assistant
City Manager up a grade level.
