INTRODUCED BY COUNCIII~ GLICKERT <br /> <br />BILL NO. <br /> <br />FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />6997 <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. <br /> <br />4858 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 18 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE <br />CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY, RELATING TO LICENSES AND BUSINESS <br />REGULATIONS, BY REPEALING SECTION 18-68 THEREOF, AS AMENDED <br />BY ORDINANCE NO. 4516, ENACTED JUNE 30, 1969, RELATING TO THE <br />IMPOSITION OF A LICENSE TAX ON TELEPHONE AND TELEGRAPH COMPANIES, <br />AND ENACTING IN LIEU THEREOF A NEW SECTION TO BE KNOWN AS <br />"SECTION 18-68. LICENSE TAX--IMPOSED; AMOUNT," BY PROVIDING <br />FOR AN INCREASE FROM SEVEN PER CENT TO NINE PER CENT OF GROSS <br />RECEIPTS; CONTAINING AN EFFECTIVE DATE OF AUGUST 1, 1974, CONTAIN- <br />INGAN EMERGENCY CLAUSE, AND PROVIDING A PENALTY. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY, MISSOURI, AS <br /> <br /> Section 1. Chapter 18 of the Municipal Code of the City of University City, <br />relating to licenses and business regulations, is hereby amended by repealing <br /> <br />Section 18-68 thereof as amended by Ordinance No. 4516, enacted June 30, 1969, relating <br />to the imposition of a license tax on telephone and telegraph companies, and enacting <br />in lieu thereof a new section to be known as "Section 18-68. License tax--imposed; <br />amount," by providing for an increase from seven per cent to nine per cent of gross <br />receipts; relating to the same subject, and re-enacting said section so that said <br />section, as so amended, shall read as follows: <br /> <br /> Section 18-68. License tax--imposed; amount. <br /> <br /> Every person engaged in the business of supplying or <br /> furnishing telephone or telegraph service in the city <br /> shall pay to the city as a license or occupational tax <br /> nine per cent of the gross receipts derived from such <br /> business within the city. <br /> <br /> Section 2. Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the provisions <br />of this ordinance, shall, upon conviction thereof, be subject to the penalty provided <br />in Chapter 1, Section 1-8 of the Municipal Code of the City of University City. <br /> <br /> Section 3. This ordinance is hereby declared to be necessary for the <br /> immediate preservation of the public welfare of the citizens of this City, amd as such <br /> is an emergency ordinance which shall take immediate effect upon its passage. <br /> <br />Section 4.
