} <br /> INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMEMBER LEVY <br /> BILL NO. 7644 ORDINANCE N0. <br /> 5440 <br /> AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 1 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY <br /> OF UNIVERSITY CITY, RELATING TO GENERAL PROVISIONS, BY REPEALING <br /> SECTION 1-16, RELATING TO "DISPOSAL OF UNCLAIMED PROPERTY - <br /> GENERALLY," AND ENACTING THEREIN A NEW SECTION TO BE KNOWN AS <br /> "SECTION 1-16. DISPOSAL OF UNCLAIMED PROPERTY - GENERALLY," BY <br /> AMENDING SAID SECTION SO AS TO CHANGE DISPOSAL DAY OF UNCLAIMED <br /> PROPERTY FROM THE THIRD SATURDAY OF JUNE AND THE SECOND SUNDAY OF <br /> DECEMBER TO SUCH DAY OR DAYS OF EACH YEAR AS SHALL BE DESIGNATED <br /> BY THE CITY MANAGER, AND TO CHANGE THE LOCATION OF SAID SALE FROM <br /> THE POLICE HEADQUARTERS TO THAT LOCATION AS DESIGNATED BY THE CITY <br /> MANAGER. <br /> BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY, MISSOURI, <br /> AS FOLLOWS: <br /> Section 1. Chapter 1 of the Municipal Code of the City of University <br /> City, relating to General Provisions, is hereby amended by repealing Section <br /> 1-16 thereof, relating to disposal of unclaimed property - generally, and <br /> enacting in lieu thereof a new section to be known as "Section 1-16. Disposal <br /> of unclaimed property - Generally," changing disposal day from the third <br /> Saturday of June and the second Sunday of December to such day or days of each <br /> year as shall be designated by the City Manager, and to change the location of <br /> said sale from the police headquarters to that location as designated by the <br /> City Manager, relating to the same subject, and re-enacting said section so <br /> that said section, as so amended, shall read as follows: <br /> Sec. 1-16. Disposal of unclaimed property - Generally. <br /> Al med property other than money or cash coming into the <br /> Possession of the police department from any source whatever and <br /> having any value shall be properly marked or catalogued so as to <br /> show its source and date of its receipt and shall be kept and <br /> disposed of as herein provided. On such day or days of each year <br /> as shall be designated by the City Manager all such property which <br /> has remained unclaimed for more than six months, and the owner of <br /> which is unknown, shall be sold at public auction by the chief of <br /> police at a suitable place designated by the City Manager. Ten <br /> days' notice of such sale shall be published in a newspaper of <br /> general circulation in the city, such notice to be published not <br /> more than three weeks prior to the date of such sale. All moneys <br /> received from the sale of such property shall be turned over to <br /> the director of finance to be deposited in the general revenue <br /> fund of the City. All property for which no bid is received at <br /> such sale shall be destroyed by the chief of police in the <br /> presence of at least two other members of the department and a <br /> certificate of such destruction, signed by the officers present, <br /> shall be filed with the city clerk. <br /> Section 2.
