INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMEMBER ADAMS <br /> BILL N0. 7720 ORDINANCE NO. 5516 <br /> AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO, ON <br /> BEHALF OF UNIVERSITY CITY, A CONTRACT WITH THE MISSOURI HIGHWAY <br /> AND TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION CAPTIONED "BRIDGE LOAD POSTING <br /> AGREEMENT," AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE ALL <br /> NECESSARY DOCUMENTS AND PAPERS REQUIRED FOR EXECUTION OF THE <br /> SAID CONTRACT UNDER PROJECT REFERRED TO AS "CITY OF UNIVERSITY <br /> CITY, ST. LOUIS COUNTY PROJECT BRO-096 (3) 9." <br /> WHEREAS, under the laws of the United States the Secretary of Transpor- <br /> tation is authorized to grant funds to states for projects for the replacement and <br /> rehabilitation of toll-free public bridges which are under the jurisdiction of and <br /> maintained by a public authority and are open to public travel; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Federal Highway Administration requires that each bridge be <br /> rated for safety to its load carrying capacity; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Missouri Highway and Transportation Commission (herein <br /> referred to as Commission) will furnish the City of University City (herein referred <br /> to as City) lists indicating which bridges have been rated for safe load carrying <br /> capacity and which have not been so rated; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City will establish safe load ratings for all bridges under <br /> City jurisdiction which have not been so rated; and <br /> WHEREAS, the City will present the Commission with a schedule of signs to <br /> be posted together with an estimate of cost for the installation thereof; and <br /> WHEREAS, upon approval of City's schedule by the Federal Highway Adminis- <br /> tration, the City will install or cause to be installed signs indicating the safe <br /> load carrying capacity for all bridges as so determined; and <br /> WHEREAS, the cost of the improvement wil be borne by the United States and <br /> by the City in the proportion of 80% and 20% respectively. <br /> i <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY <br /> CITY, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> Section 1. The City Manager of the City of University City is hereby <br /> authorized to enter into, on behalf of the City, a contract with the Missouri <br /> Highway and Transportation Commission captioned "Bridge Load Posting Agreement." <br /> Section 2.
