INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMEMBER ADAMS <br /> BILL NO. 7771 ORDINANCE NO. 5567 <br /> AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 25 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF <br /> THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY, RELATING TO RETIREMENT AND <br /> PENSIONS, BY REPEALING SECTION 25-10 THEREOF, AS AMENDED <br /> BY ORDINANCE NO. 5316, ENACTED DECEMBER 7, 1981, RELATING <br /> TO CONTRIBUTIONS FROM MEMBERS OF THE UNIFORMED PENSION <br /> PLAN, AND ENACTING IN LIEU THEREOF A NEW SECTION TO BE <br /> KNOW AS "SECTION 25-10. CONTRIBUTIONS FROM MEMBERS <br /> GENERALLY," BY AMENDING SAID SECTION SO AS TO REDUCE THE <br /> PAYROLL DEDUCTION FROM 9 PERCENT TO 8 PERCENT OF BASE <br /> SALARY FOR PENSION PURPOSES; CONTAINING A SAVING- CLAUSE <br /> AND PROVIDING A PENALTY. <br /> BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY, <br /> MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> Section 1. Chapter 25 of the Municipal Code of the City of Univer- <br /> sity City, relating to retirement and pensions is hereby amended by repealing <br /> Section 25-10 thereof, as amended by Ordinance No. 5294, enacted July 27, <br /> 1981, relating to contributions from members of the uniformed pension plan, <br /> and enacting in lieu thereof a new section to be known as "Section 25-10. <br /> Contributions from members generally," by amending said section so as to <br /> reduce the payroll deduction from 9 percent to 8 percent of base salary for <br /> pension purposes; relating to the same subject, and re-enacting said section <br /> so that said section, as so amended, shall read as follows: <br /> Sec. 25-10. Contributions from members generally. <br /> Every salaried member of both the Police and Fire Depart- <br /> ments of the City shall be assessed and required to pay <br /> into the Police and Firemen's Retirement Fund, created <br /> pursuant to this article, a sum equal to eight (8%) percent <br /> of the member's current monthly salary not in excess of the <br /> base salary. The base salary, as used herein, means the <br /> highest monthly salary according to the salary range, as <br /> contained in Section 1, Schedule B of the payroll ordi- <br /> nances then in use for a police officer and firefighter or <br /> paramedic firefighter, excluding any salary increases <br /> because of years of service. If the amounts for such police <br /> officer and firefighter or paramedic firefighter (whichever <br /> is the highest salary of the fire group) are not the same, <br /> the mean of the two amounts shall be used as the base <br /> salary herein. The City, in making up its payroll for <br /> members of the Police and Fire Departments, shall be <br /> authorized and is hereby required to deduct from the <br /> compensation and salary due each employee for each payroll <br /> period a sum representing eight (8%) percent of each <br /> employee's salary not in excess of the base salary, such <br /> deduction to be placed in a special fund, to be paid to the <br /> treasurer of the Board of Trustees of the Police and <br /> Firemen's Retirement Fund created pursuant to Sections 2-74 <br /> to 2-80. Each employee of the Police and Fire Departments <br /> shall execute and delver to the proper official of the <br /> City an authorization in proper form for the deduction <br /> herein described, and no person shall be employed as a <br /> member of the Police or Fire Departments unless the <br /> employee shall execute such authorization. Any employee of <br /> either of such departments refusing to execute such <br /> authorization shall be ineligible to receive any of the <br /> benefits provided by this Chapter. <br />
