SECTION 17-201.0 APPLIED MEANING OF WORDS AND TERMS <br /> <br />Approved: Approved by the code official. <br /> <br />Basement: <br />grade. <br /> <br />That portion of a building which is partly or completely below <br /> <br />Bathroom: A room containing a bathtub and/or shower. <br /> <br />Building code: The building code as adopted by the City Council of this City. <br /> <br />Certificate of Occupancy: See occupancy permit. <br /> <br />City: The City of University City. <br /> <br />Code official: The building commissioner of the City of University City, or <br />the duly authorized representative of the building commissioner. <br /> <br />Condemn: To adjudge unsafe or unfit for use or occupancy. <br /> <br />Dormitory: A space in a building where group sleeping accommodations are <br />provided for persons not members of the same family group in one room, or in a <br />series of closely associated rooms. <br /> <br />Dwellings <br /> One-family dwelling: A building containing one dwelling unit. <br /> Two-family dwelling: A building containing two dwelling units. <br /> Multi-family dwelling: A building or portion thereof containing <br /> more than two dwelling units and not classified as a one-family <br /> or two-family dwelling. <br /> Rooming house: A building arranged or used for the lodgings <br /> with or without meals, for compensation, and not occupied as a <br /> one-family or two-family dwelling. <br /> Hotel: Any building containing six or more guest rooms <br /> intended or designed to be used, or which are used, rented or <br /> hired out to be occupied, or which are occupied for sleeping <br /> purposes by guests. <br /> <br />Dwelling unit: A single unit providing complete, independent living facili- <br />ties for one family and having its own .permanently installed kitchen and <br />sanitary facilities. <br /> <br />Exterior property: The open space on the premises and on adjoining rights-of-way. <br /> <br />Extermination: The control and elimination of insects, rats, or other pests <br />by eliminating their harborage places; by removing or making inaccessible <br />materials that may serve as their food; by poison spraying, fumigating, trap- <br />ping, or by any other approved pest elimination methods. <br /> <br />Family: An individual or married couple and/or the children thereof and no <br />more than two other persons related directly to the individual or married <br />couple by blood or marriage, or a group of no more than three persons living <br />together as a single housekeeping unit in a dwelling unit. <br /> <br />Fire Prevention Code: The Fire Prevention Code as adopted by the City Council <br />of this City. <br /> <br />Garbage: The animal and vegetable waste resulting from the handling, prepar- <br />ation, cooking or consumption of food. <br /> <br />Habitable space~ Space in a structure for living, sleeping, eating or <br />cooking. (Bathrooms, toilet compartments, closets, halls, storage or utility <br />space, and similar areas are not considered habitable space.) <br /> <br />Infestation: The presence within, or contiguous to, a structure or premises, <br />of insects, rats, vermin or other pests. <br /> <br />Mechanical code: The Mechanical Code as adopted by the City Council of this <br />City. <br /> <br />Occupancy permit: A certificate of occupancy issued under this code. <br /> <br />12 <br /> <br /> <br />
