17-601.4.3 Safety controls: All safety controls for fuel-burning equipment <br />shall be maintained in effective operation. <br /> <br />17-601.4.4 Combustion air: A supply of air for complete combustion of the <br />fuel and for ventilation of the space shall be provided for the fuel-burning <br />equipment. <br /> <br />17-601.5 Fireplaces: Fireplaces, and other construction and devices intended <br />for use similar to a fireplace, shall be stable and structurally safe and <br />connected to approved chimneys. <br /> <br />SECTION 17-602.0 ELECTRICAL <br /> <br />17-602.1 Facilities Required: Every building or part thereof used for human <br />occupancy shall be adequately and safely provided with an electrical system in <br />compliance with the requirements of this section. The following standards as <br />set forth in this section shall be considered as absolute m~nimum require- <br />ments. The size of unit and the usage of appliances and equipment shall be <br />used as a basis for determining the need for additional facilities in accord- <br />ance with the standards of the NFiPA 30-87, as published by the National Fire <br />protection AssoCiation. <br /> <br />17-602.1.1 Receptacles: Every habitable space in a dwelling unit, and every <br />guestroom shall contain at least two separate and remote receptacle outlets. <br />Every laundry area shall contain at least one grounding-type or ground-fault <br />circuit-interrupter type receptacle. <br /> <br />17-602.1.2 Lighting fixtures: Every public hall, interior stairway, water <br />closet compartment, bathroom, laundry room and furnace room shall contain at <br />least one electric lighting fixture. <br /> <br />17-602.1.3 Service: Every dwelling unit in one and two family dwellings <br />shall be served by a main service which is no smaller than sixty ampere, three <br />wire. <br /> <br />17-602.2 Installation: All electrical equipment, wiring and appliances shall <br />be installed and maintained in a safe manner in accordance with all applicable <br />laws. All electrical equipment shall be of an approved type. <br /> <br />17-602.3 Defective system: Where it is found that the electrical system in a <br />structure constitutes a hazard to the occupants of the structure by reason of <br />inadequate service, improper fusing, insufficient outlets, improper wiring or <br />installation, deterioration or damage, or for similar reasons, the code <br />official shall require the defects to be corrected to eliminate the hazard. <br /> <br />17-602.4 Prohibited installations: <br />presence shall be deemed a hazard: <br /> <br />The following are prohibited and their <br /> <br />(1) Flush or semi-flush mounted floor receptacle outlets, unless <br /> provided with an approved waterproof cover. <br />(2) Extension cords for other than short term, temporary use. <br />(3) Lamp cord used as permanent wiring. <br />(4) Conductor supported pendant switches or conductor supported <br /> pendant lighting fixtures. <br />(5) Loose or hanging wires. <br />(6) Frayed or bare wires. <br />(7) Grounded-type receptacles which are improperly or inadequately <br /> grounded. <br /> <br />SECTION 17-603.0 ELEVATORS, ESCALATORS AND DUMBWAITERS <br /> <br />17-603.1 General: Elevators, dumbwaiters, and escalators shall be maintained <br />to safely sustain the loads to which they are subject, to operate properly, <br />and to be free of physical or fire hazards. <br /> <br />17-603.2 Elevators: In buildings equipped with passenger elevators, at least <br />one elevator shall be maintained in operation at all times when the building <br />is occupied. <br /> <br />Exception: <br /> <br />Buildings equipped with only one elevator shall be <br />permitted to have the elevator temporarily out of <br />service for testing and servicing. <br /> <br />26 <br /> <br /> <br />
