When actuated, the smoke detector shall provid <br />warn the occupants within the individual room or unit. <br /> <br />an alarm suitable to <br /> <br />17-904.4.1 Tampering: Annyone tampering or interfering with the effective- <br />ness of a smoke detector shall be in violation of this code. <br /> <br />17-904.5 Fire alarm system! All buildings used as churches or for similar <br />religious purposes or of educational use shall be equipped with a manual fire <br />alarm system in accordance with the building code. <br /> <br />Exception: Sanctuary and nave areas of churches and similar <br /> religious buildings. <br /> <br />SECTION 17-905.0 ELEVATOR RECALL <br /> <br />17~905.1 Required: All elevators having a travel distance of 25 feet (7620mm) <br />or more above or below the primary level of elevator access for emergency <br />fire fighting or rescue personnel shall conform to tbe requirements of Rule <br />211.3, (Operation of Elevators Under Fire or Other Emergency Conditions), of <br />ASME A17.1-84. <br /> <br />SECTION 17-906.0 MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT CONTROL <br /> <br />17-906.1 Smoke and heat detection: Each recirculating air or exhaust system <br />which serves more than one floor in buildings which exceed six stories in <br />height shall be equipped with approved smoke and heat detection devices in <br />accordance with the mechanical code. The devices shall stop the fan(s) auto- <br />matically and shall be of the manual reset type. Automatic fan shutdown is <br />not required when the system is part of an approved smoke removal or control <br />system. <br /> <br /> Section 3. Saving Clause. Nothing in this ordinance or in the Existing <br />Structures Code hereby adopted, shall be construed to affect any suit or <br />proceeding pending in any court, or any rights acquired or liability incurred, <br />or any cause or causes of action acquired or existing under any act or <br />ordinance hereby repealed, as cited herein. <br /> <br /> Section 4. Severability. If any section, subsection, provision, sentence, <br />clause or phrase of this ordinance is for any reasons held to be unconsti- <br />tutional or invalid, such decision shall not affect the validity of the <br />remaining portions of this ordinance and the City Council of the City of <br />University City hereby declares that it would have passed the same, even <br />though such portion so held to be unconstitutional had not been included <br />herein and to this end the provisions of this ordinance are hereby declared to <br />be severable. <br /> <br /> Section 5. Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the provisions <br />of this ordinance, shall, upon conviction thereof, be subject to the penalty <br />provided in Chapter 1, Section 1-8 of the Municipal Code of the City of <br />University City. <br /> <br /> Section 6.
