BILL NO. <br /> <br /> INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMEMBER SCHUMAN <br /> <br />8097 ORDINANCE NO. <br /> <br />5885 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 1 OF THE MUNICIPAL <br />CODE OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY; RELATING TO <br />GENERAL PROVISIONS AND ENACTING THEREIN A NEW <br />SECTION TO BE KNOWN AS "SECTION 1-8.2; COURT COSTS- <br />VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE," SO AS TO ASSESS AN <br />ADDITIONAL ONE DOLLAR ($1) PER CASE. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY <br />CITY, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Section 1. Chapter 1 of the Municipal Code of the City <br />of University City, relating to General Provisions is hereby <br />amended by enacting therein a new section to be known as <br />"Section 1-8.2, Court Costs-Victims of Domestic Violence," so <br />as to assess an additional one dollar ($1) pe~ case, reading <br />as follows: <br /> <br />SEC 1-8.2. COURT COSTS-VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE <br /> <br />In addition to all other court costs for municipal <br />ordinance violations, there shall be assessed an <br />additional court cost in the amount of one dollar <br />($1) per case for each municipal ordinance viola- <br />tion case filed before the municipal judge. The <br />judge may waive assessment of the cost in those <br />cases where the defendant is found by the judge to <br />be indigent and unable to pay the cost. Such cost <br />shall ,be collected by the clerk and disbursed to <br />St. Louis County at least monthly. St. Louis <br />County shall use such additional costs only for the <br />purpose of providing operating expenses for <br />shelters for battered persons as defined in <br />sections 455.200 to 455.250, RSMo. <br /> <br /> Section 2.
