BILL NO. INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMEMBER SCHUMAN 8106 ORDINANCE NO. 5894 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 25 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY, RELATING TO RETIREMENT AND PENSIONS, BY REPEALING SECTION 25- 57 THEREOF, AS ENACTED BY ORDINANCE NO. 5748, ENACTED APRIL 16, 1990, RELATING TO AN INCREASE IN MONTHLY BENEFITS, AND ENACTING IN LIEU THEREOF A NEW SECTION TO BE KNOWN AS, "SECTION 25-57. IN- CREASE IN MONTHLY BENEFITS," TO INCREASE THE MONTHLY BENEFITS BY TWENTY-FIVE DOLLARS ($25.00) A MONTH; AND CONTAINING A SAVING CLAUSE AND AN EMERGENCY CLAUSE. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Chapter 25 of the Municipal Code of the City of University City, relating to retirement and pensions, is hereby amended by repealing Section 25-57 thereof, as enacted by Ordinance No. 5748, enacted April 16, 1990, relating to an increase in monthly benefits, and enacting in lieu thereof a new section to be known as "Section 25-57. Increase in Monthly Benefits," relating to the same subject, and re- enacting said section so that said section as so amended, shall read as follows: Section 25-57. Increase in Monthly Benefits. (a) There shall be paid to current retirees who 'retired prior to September I, 1981, and to concur- rent beneficiaries whose spouses retired prior to September 1, 1981, an additional sum equal to ten percent (10%) per month of the amount they are currently receiving. (b) Effective January 1, 1990, the monthly bene- fits of all retirees and beneficiaries who retired prior to January 1, 1989, and who are receiving benefits will be increased by ten dollars ($10.00). (c) Provide to all retirees and beneficiaries, other than children, who retired prior to July 1991, who are presently receiving benefits and who terminated employment after eligibility for retire- ment, a monthly benefit increase of twenty-five dollars ($25.00) effective December 1992.
