BILL NO. <br /> <br /> INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMEMBER PRICE <br /> <br />8150 ORDINANCE NO. <br /> <br />5937 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 18 OF THE MUNICIPAL <br />CODE OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY, RELATING TO <br />LICENSES AND BUSINESS REGULATIONS, BY REPEALING <br />SECTION 18-57 THEREOF, AS AMENDED BY ORDINANCE NO. <br />5260, ENACTED NOVEMBER 5, 1980, RELATING TO LICENSE <br />FEES AND THE PROCEDURE FOR LICENSING MERCHANTS <br />BEGINNING BUSINESS DURING THE YEAR, AND ENACTING IN <br />LIEU THEREOF A NEW SECTION TO BE KNOWN AS "SECTION <br />18-57. LICENSE--LICENSE FEE AND PROCEDURE FOR <br />LICENSING MERCHANTS BEGINNING BUSINESS DURING THE <br />YEAR," BY AMENDING SAID SECTION BY EXEMPTING EXIST- <br />ING BUSINESSES; CONTAINING A SAVING CLAUSE AND <br />PROVIDING A PENALTY. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY <br />CITY, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Section 1: Chapter 18 of the Municipal Code of the City <br />of University City, relating to Licenses and Business <br />Regulations, is hereby amended by repealing Section 18-57 <br />thereof, as amended by Ordinance No. 5260, enacted November <br />3, 1980, relating to license fees and the procedure'for <br />licensing merchants beginning business during the year, and <br />enacting in lieu thereof a new section to be known as <br />"Section 18-57. Licnese--License Fee and Procedure for <br />Licensing Merchants Beginning Business During the Year," by <br />amending said section by exempting existing businesses <br />relating to the same subject, and re-enacting said section so <br />that said section, as so amended, shall read as follows: <br /> <br />SECTION 18-57. <br /> <br />LICENSE--LICENSE FEE AND PROCEDURE <br />FOR LICENSING MERCHANTS BEGINNING <br />BUSINESS DURING THE YEAR <br /> <br />When any person first engages in business in the <br />City as a merchant, except an ongoing existing <br />business, it shall be his duty to make application <br />to the Director of Finance for a license, as pre- <br />scribed by this Article, and to pay a minimum <br />license fee of Thirty Dollars ($50.00). Thereafter, <br />on or before the last day of April of each calendar <br />year, such person shall file with the Director of <br />Finance a statement of the actual gross receipts <br />during the preceding calendar year and pay the <br />license tax computed upon such receipts according <br />to the schedule set forth in Section 18-56. <br /> <br /> Section 2. This ordinance shall not be construed so as <br />to relieve any person, firm, or corporation from any penalty <br />heretofore incurred by the violation of Section 18-57 nor bar <br />the prosecution for any such violation. <br /> <br /> <br />
