Years Membership Percentaqe o__f <br />Years of Service in Fund Base Monthly Salary <br /> <br />25 25 65 <br />26 26 66 <br />27 27 67 <br />28 28 68 <br />29 29 69 <br />50 or more 50 or more 70 <br /> <br />(7) (a) There shall be paid upon the death of any active <br />employee a funeral benefit in the sum equal to one month's <br />base salary then in effect. <br /> <br /> (b) There shall be paid upon the death of an employee <br />retired under Section 25-14(a), 25-14(b), 25-14(c), 25-14(e), <br />25-15 or 25-16 a funeral benefit in the sum equal to one <br />month's base salary in effect at the date the employee <br />retired. <br /> <br />(8) There shall be paid upon the death of any employee <br />retired under Section 25-14(a), 25-14(e) or Section 25-15 or <br />upon service-connected death as provided in Section 25-15, <br />the following: <br /> <br /> (a) To the employee's surviving spouse, provided such <br />employee shall have been married to said surviving spouse <br />prior to the employee's injury under Section 25-15 for three <br />yers or more prior to the employee's retirement under Section <br />25-14(a) or 25-14(e) a monthly benefit of twenty-five percent <br />(25%) of the monthly base salary in effect at the date of the <br />employee's retirement or at the employee's death until the <br />death or remarriage of such surviving spouse. <br /> <br /> (b) To the lawful guardian of such employee's surviving <br />minor unmarried child or children under the age of eighteen <br />years, provided such child or children shall have been born <br />within ten months after the employee's retirement or the <br />employeeIs death in service, a monthly benefit of ten percent <br />(10%) of the monthly base salary as previously described for <br />such child or children until such child or children attain <br />the age of eighteen years or marry; provided, the combined <br />monthly payments to such surviving spouse and children shall <br />in no case exceed sixty percent (60%) of the monthly base <br />salary, and in which event the thirty-five percent (55%) <br />maximum benefit for the eligible children shall be prorated <br />between them; provided, further, that if there is no <br />surviving spouse entitled to benefits in any month, the <br />surviving spouse's benefit will be divided equally among the <br />then eligible children, but no child shall be entitled to <br />more than fifty percent (50%) of the surviving spouse's <br />benefit. <br /> <br /> <br />
