BILL NO. INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMEMBER THOMPSON 8209 ORDINANCE NO. 5994 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 21 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY, RELATING TO MOTOR VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC, AND ENACTING THEREIN A NEW SECTION TO BE KNOWN AS "SECTION 21-108.5. PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM REQUIRED FOR CHILDREN UNDER FOUR YEARS OF AGE - EXCEPTIONS"; CONTAINING A SAVING CLAUSE AND PROVIDING A PENALTY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE-COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOV~: Section 1. Chapter 21 of the Municipal Code of the City of University City, relating to Motor Vehicles and Traffic is hereby amended by enacting therein a new section to be known as "Section 21-108.5. Passenger Restraint System Required for Children Under Four Years of Age-Exceptions;" reading as follows: 21-108.5. PASSENGER RESTRAINT SYSTEM REQUIRED FOR CHILDREN UNDER FOUR YEARS OF AGE-EXCEPTIONS. Everv person transporting a child under the age of four years shall be responsible, when transporting such child in a motor vehicle operated by that person on the streets or highways of this city, for providing for the protection of such child. Such children shall be protected by a child passenger restraint system approved by the Missouri Department of Public Safety. The provisions of this section shall not apply to any public carrier for nice. Any person who violates this section, upon conviction, may be punished by a fine of not more than twenty-five dollars and court costs. Section 2. This ordinance shall not be construed so as to celleve any person, firm or corporation from any penalty heretofore incurred by the violation of Chapter 21 nor bar the prosecution for any such violation. Section 3. Unless otherwise provided herein, any person, ¢irm or corporation violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall, upon conv~ct~on thetee)f, be subject to the penalty provided ~n Chapter 1, Section of the Municipal Code of the City of University City.
