BILL NO. <br /> <br /> INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMEMBER COTTON <br /> <br />8259 ORDINANCE NO. 6043 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 21 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF <br />THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY, RELATING TO MOTOR VEHICLES AND <br />TRAFFIC, BY REPEALING SECTION 21-104 THEREOF, RELATING TO <br />TURNING AT INTERSECTIONS, AND ENACTING IN LIEU THEREOF A NEW <br />SECTION TO BE KNOWN AS "SECTION 21-104. TURNING AT <br />INTERSECTIONS." BY AMENDING SAID SECTION SO AS TO PROHIBIT LEFT <br />TURNS DURING DESIGNATED HOURS FROM SOUTHBOUND HANLEY <br />ROAD ONTO MELROSE OR WELLINGTON AVENUES, AND FROM <br />NORTHBOUND MIDLAND BOULEVARD ONTO CARLETON, MELROSE OR <br />WELLINGTON AVENUES; CONTAINING A SAVING CLAUSE AND <br />PROVIDING A PENALTY. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY, MISSOURI, <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Section 1. Chapter 21 of the Municipal Code of the City of University City, <br />relating to motor vehicles and traffic is hereby amended by repealing Section 21- <br />104 thereof, relating to turning at intersections, and enacting in lieu thereof a new <br />section to be known as "Section 21-104. Turning at intersections," by amending said <br />section so as to prohibit left turns during designated hours from southbound Hanley <br />Road onto Melrose or Wellington Avenues, and from Northbound Midland <br />Boulevard onto Carleton, Melrose or Wellington Avenues; so that said section, as <br />so amended, shall read as follows: <br /> <br />SFCTION 21-104. TURNING AT INTERSECTIONS. <br /> <br />(a) Right Turns Generally. The operator of a vehicle intending to turn to the <br />right at an intersection or into an alley or driveway shall approach the point <br />of turning in the traffic lane nearest the right-hand edge or curb of the <br />roadway and in turning, shall keep as close as practicable to the right-hand <br />curb or edge of the roadway. <br /> <br />(b) Left Turns Generally. The operator of a vehicle intending to turn to the <br />left at an intersection or into a driveway shall approach the point of turning <br />in the lane for traffic to the right of and next to the center of the roadway; <br />and unless otherwise directed by turning markers, the operator of a vehicle <br />in turning left at an intersection shall pass to the right of the center of the <br />intersection before turning. Upon streets laned for traffic and upon one-way <br />streets, a left turn shall be made from the left lane of traffic. <br /> <br />(c) Turning Markers. The director of public works is hereby authorized to <br />place turning markers. <br /> <br /> <br />
