BILL NO. <br /> <br /> INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMEMBER WAGNER <br />8264 ORDINANCE NO. 6047 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE IMPOSING A ONE-HALF OF ONE PERCENT SALES TAX ON ALL RETAIL <br />SALES WHICH ARE SUBJECT TO TAXATION UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF SECTIONS <br />144.010 TO 144.525 RSMo, FOR THE PURPOSE OF FUNDING CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS, <br />INCLUDING THE OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS, AND <br />PROVIDING FOR THE SUBMISSION OF A PROPOSITION AUTHORIZING SUCH TAX TO THE <br />QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY AT THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL <br />ELECTION ON APRIL 2, 1996. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Section 1. A one-half of one percent sales tax is hereby imposed on all retail sales which <br />are subject to taxation under the provisions of Sections 144.010 to 144.,525 RSMo, for the purpose <br />of funding capital improvements, including the operation and maintenance of capital <br />improvements. This tax shall be in addition to any and all other sales taxes allowed by law. <br /> <br /> ~. An election is hereby called and ordered to be held in the City of University City, <br />Missouri, on Tuesday, April 2, 1996, for the purpose of submiffing to the qualified voters of the City <br />of University City the following proposition: <br /> <br />PROPOSITION U <br /> <br />Shall the City of University City, Missouri, impose a sales tax of one-half of one percent for the <br />purpose of funding capital improvements which may include the retirement of debt under <br />previously authorized bond indebtedness? <br /> <br />[] Yes D No <br /> <br />If you are in favor of the question, place an 'X" in the box opposite 'Yes." If you are opposed to <br />the question, place an 'X" in the box opposite 'No." <br /> <br /> Section 3. If a majority of the votes cast on Proposition I by the qualified voters voting <br />thereon are in favor of the proposal, then said one-half of one percent sales tax shall be in effect <br />upon such favorable vote. Otherwise, said sales tax shall not take effect. <br /> <br />Section 4, Said election shall be held in full compliance with all applicable laws. <br /> <br /> Section 5.
