<br />to accumulate in stairways, passageways, doors, windows, fire escapes or other means of <br />egress. <br /> <br />703.2 Hazardous material: Combustible, flammable, explosive or other hazardous <br />materials, such as paints, volatile oils and cleaning fluids or combustible rubbish, such as <br />wastepaper, boxes and rags, shall not be accumulated or stored unless such storage <br />complies with the applicable requirements of the building code and the fire prevention <br />code adopted by the City of University City. <br /> <br />(SECTION 704 FIRE RESISTANCE RATINGS) <br /> <br />704.1 General: The fire resistance rating of floors, walls, ceilings and other elements and <br />components shall be maintained. <br /> <br />704.2 Maintenance: All required fire doors and smoke barriers shall be maintained in <br />good working order, including all hardware necessary for the proper operation thereof. <br />Fire doors shall not be held open by door stops, wedges and other unapproved hold-open <br />devices. <br /> <br />704.3 Attached garages: Private garages located beneath a dwelling unit shall be <br />separated from the dwelling unit by walls, partitions, floors and ceilings with a fire <br />resistance rating of not less than one (1) hour. Private garages attached to a dwelling <br />shall be completely separated from the dwelling unit, its basement and its attic area by <br />means of one-half (Yz) inch gypsum board or equivalent applied to the garage side and <br />taped at the joints. Doors separating garages from such dwelling units, basements or <br />attics shall be solid core doors with a minimum thickness of one and three-eights (l 3/8) <br />inches or approved equivalent door. <br /> <br />704.4 Barriers to fire: Fireblocking, draftstopping, fire stopping and thermal barriers <br />required by the building code adopted by the City of University City shall be maintained. <br /> <br />(SECTION 705 FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS) <br /> <br />705.1 General: All systems, devices and equipment to detect a fire, actuate an alarm, or <br />suppress or control a fire or any combination thereof shall be properly maintained. <br /> <br />705.2 Fire suppression system: Fire suppression systems shall be in proper operating <br />condition at all times. <br /> <br />705.2.1 Valves: Control valves shall be in the fully open position. <br /> <br />705.2.2 Sprinklers: Sprinklers shall be clean and free from corrosion, paint and damage. <br />Stock shall be at least 18 inches (457 mm) below sprinkler deflectors. <br /> <br />705.2.3 Piping: Piping shall be properly supported and shall not support any other loads. <br /> <br />29 <br />
