<br />INTRODUCED BY: Ms. Brot <br /> <br />DATE: OS/22/06 <br /> <br />BILL NO. 8878 <br /> <br />ORDINANCE NO. 6634 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE IMPOSING AN ADDITIONAL ONE-FOURTH OF <br />ONE PERCENT SALES TAX ON ALL RETAIL SALES MADE IN <br />THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY WHICH ARE SUBJECT TO <br />TAXATION UNDER CHAPTER 144 RSMO, FOR ECONOMIC <br />DEVELOPMENT PURPOSES, AND PROVIDING FOR THE <br />SUBMISSION OF A PROPOSITION AUTHORIZING SUCH TAX TO <br />THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY AT <br />THE PRIMARY ELECTION ON AUGUST 8, 2006; CONTAINING AN <br />EMERGENCY CLAUSE. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Section 67.1305 RSMo permits the City of University City to <br />impose a sales tax of up to one-half of one percent for economic development purposes, <br />subject to voter approval; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of University City desires to impose a sales tax at the rate of <br />one- fourth of one percent for said purpose. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF UNIVERSITY CITY, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. A sales tax at the rate of one-fourth of one percent is hereby <br />imposed on all retail sales made in the City of University City, Missouri, which are <br />subject to taxation under Chapter 144 RSMo, for economic development purposes. This <br />tax shall be in addition to any and all other sales taxes allowed by law. <br /> <br />Section 2. An election is hereby called and ordered to be held in the City of <br />University City, Missouri on Tuesday, August 8, 2006, for the purpose of submitting to <br />the qualified voters of said City the following proposition: <br /> <br />PROPOSITION U <br /> <br />Shall the City of University City, Missouri impose a sales tax at the rate of one-fourth of <br />one percent for economic development purposes? <br /> <br />Yes <br /> <br />No <br /> <br />If you are in favor the proposition, place an "X" in the box opposite "Yes."
