INTRODUCED BY: Mr. Sharpe Jr. DATE: June 26, 2006 BILL NO. 8891 ORDINANCE NO. 6653 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 8.12 OF THE UNIVERSITY CITY MUNICIPAL CODE, RELATING TO GARBAGE COLLECTION AND DISPOSAL, BY REPEALING SECTION 8.12.200 THEREOF, RELATING TO THE SCHEDULE OF REFUSE COLLECTION CHARGES, AND ENACTING IN LIEU THEREOF A NEW SECTION TO BE KNOWN AS "SECTION 8.12.200 SCHEDULE OF REFUSE COLLECTION CHARGES," THEREBY AMENDING SAID SECTION SO AS TO INCREASE MONTHLY REFUSE RATES EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 1, 2006, TO COVER THE COST OF PROVIDING THE SERVICES; CONTAINING SAVINGS, SEVERABILITY, AND PROVIDING A PENALTY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Chapter 8.12 of the University City Municipal Code, relating to garbage collection and disposal, is hereby amended by repealing Section 8.12.200 thereof, relating to the schedule of refuse collection charges, and enacting in lieu thereof a new section to be known as "Section 8.12.200 Schedule of refuse collection charges," thereby amending said section so as to increase monthly rates effective September 1, 2006, to cover the cost of providing services; so that said section as so amended, shall read as follows: 8.12.200 Schedule of refuse collection charges. A. Definitions. As used in this section: "Cart" means a reusable, portable container with the capacity of sixty (60) to one hundred (100) gallons, complete with wheels, handles, hinged, tightfitting lid, and compatible with existing city equipment for mechanical lift and dump. "Mechanical Box" means a reusable, stationary container with capacity of one and one- half cubic yards or greater, and compatible with existing city equipment for mechanical lift and dump. B. Schedule of refuse rates. For the purpose of defraying the expense of the city for the collection of garbage, trash, litter and rubbish, as provided in this chapter, the owners of certain real property within the city shall pay a service charge based on the following schedule. All rates are on a monthly basis to be billed in no greater than six-month increments.
