INTRODUCED BY: Mr. Glickert DATE: February 23, 2009 BILL NO. 9024 ORDINANCE NO.: 6771 AN ORDINANCE IMPOSING AN ADDITIONAL ONE-FOURTH OF ONE PERCENT SALES TAX ON ALL RETAIL SALES MADE IN THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY WHICH ARE SUBJECT TO TAXATION UNDER CHAPTER 144 RSMO, AND PROVIDING FOR THE SUBMISSION OF A PROPOSITION AUTHORIZING SUCH TAX TO THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY AT AN ELECTION ON AUGUST 4, 2009. WHEREAS, Section 94.850 RSMo permits the City of University City, Missouri (the "City") to impose a sales tax in the amount of one-fourth of one percent from the sale at retail of all tangible personal property or taxable services at retail within the City, subject to voter approval; and WHEREAS, the City desires to impose a one-fourth of one percent sales tax pursuant to Section 94.850 RSMo. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. A one-fourth of one percent sales tax is hereby imposed on all retail sales made in the City of University City, Missouri which are subject to taxation under Chapter 144 RSMo. This tax shall be in addition to all other sales taxes allowed by law. Section 2. An election is hereby called and ordered to be held in the City of University City, Missouri on Tuesday, August 4, 2009, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified voters of said City the following proposition: PROPOSITION S Shall the City of University City, Missouri impose a sales tax of one-fourth of one percent? Yes F-1 No F-1 If you are in favor the proposition, place an "X" in the box opposite "Yes." If you are opposed to the proposition, place an "X" in the box opposite "No." Section 3. If a majority of the votes cast on Propositions by the qualified voters voting thereon are in favor of the proposition, then said one-fourth of one percent
