All floor openings connecting two or more stories shall be protected by shaft <br /> enclosures as required by Section 708.2. <br /> Exceptions: <br /> 1. Floor openings exempted by the provisions of the Building Code of University City. <br /> 2. In buildings of Use Group B, stairs connecting not more than two stories with less than 3,500 <br /> square feet of floor area per story. <br /> 3. In buildings of Use Group B, stairs connecting not more than three stories provided the <br /> building is equipped throughout with an approved automatic sprinkler system. <br /> 4. In buildings of Use Group E and R-1, stairs connecting not more than two stories provided the <br /> building is equipped throughout with an approved automatic sprinkler system. <br /> 5. In buildings of Use Groups F and S, stairs connecting not more than two stories. <br /> 6. In buildings of Use Group F and S, stairs connecting not more than three stories provided the <br /> building is equipped throughout with an approved automatic fire suppression system. <br /> 7. In buildings of Use Group M, stairs connecting not more than two stories with less than 2,000 <br /> square feet of floor area per story, or when connecting not more than two stories provided the <br /> building is equipped throughout with an approved automatic sprinkler system. <br /> 8. In buildings of Use Group R-2, stairs connecting not more than two stories with not more than <br /> four dwelling units per story. <br /> 9. In buildings of Use Group R-2, stairs connecting not more than three stories with not more <br /> than four dwelling units per story provided the building is equipped throughout with an approved <br /> automatic sprinkler system. <br /> 708.2 Enclosure rating. Enclosures connecting not more than six stories shall have a fire <br /> resistance rating of not less than 1 hour with approved opening protectives. Opening protectives <br /> shall not be required in buildings of three stories or less in height provided all the occupants of <br /> each floor have access from each floor to an exit with a fire resistance rated enclosure with <br /> approved opening protectives. Enclosures connecting more than six stories shall have a fire <br /> resistance rating of not less than 2 hours with approved opening protectives. <br /> <br /> (SECTION 790 ACCUMULATIONS AND STORAGE) <br /> <br /> 790.1 Accumulation. Rubbish, garbage or other materials shall not be stored or allowed to <br /> accumulate in stairways, passageways, doors, windows, fire escapes or other means of egress. <br /> <br /> 790.2 Hazardous material. Combustible, flammable, explosive or other hazardous materials, <br /> such as paints, volatile oils and cleaning fluids or combustible rubbish, such as wastepaper, <br /> boxes and rags, shall not be accumulated or stored unless such storage complies with the <br /> applicable requirements of the Building Code and the Fire Code of University City. <br /> <br /> Section 2. This ordinance shall not be construed so as to relieve any person, firm or <br /> corporation from any penalty heretofore incurred by the violation of Chapter 8.28, nor bar the <br /> prosecution for any such violation. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> 30 <br />
