7.25.14
Thank you for re-directing my comments to the logo only. As far as the "Neighborhood To The World"
logois concerned, it doesn't provide much inspiration or simplicity. Great logos have to pass many
markers in the process to a standards and practices application-is it readable, is it simple and bold
enough to provide instant recognition, do the colors stand up to community recognition, are the colors
viable in all manner of use (blue is the most unstable color and tends to disintegrate first).
What does the logo look like in different applications, such as faxing, copying, online and downloading
for printing at home? Possibly Advant considered all of these factors in the design. I don't know.
I agree with one commissioner who said why not just use University City on the logo? It really doesn't
need "The City of"; just adds clutter and the lions are very recognizable. Really, we are not a national or
international presence and as long as the logo can be recognized in this region, job done.
The current logo seems to have served this community well for decades. However, it could stand some
spiffing up.
Myra Vandersall
7.25.14
On Jul 25, 2014, at 4:41 PM, Max Vandersall <mvandersall@sbcglobal.net> wrote:
Thank you so much. This is extremely helpful. Myra Vandersall
7.25.14
Ok, now I've been able to look over the graphics standards manual for the originally developed (and
currently used) logo. I've compared it to the new one and as so many others, I prefer the original (and
currently used) one, but I also agree that removing the words "City of" would make that logo cleaner
and more memorable.
Aesthetic reasons for preferring the current and not the newly proposed logo...
Cleaner, more graphic
Use of blue and green in the new one will make every publication need to use 3 color printing, while the
current one can be printed using only black ink. This increases the expense of all envelopes, invoices,
and other University City printed pieces that at this point are only printed in black and white. This
seems an unwarranted increase in city expenditures.
The lions are a wonderful symbol for us, and as originally designed they are a quite brilliant graphic.
Adding to the design distracts from a really striking logo.
Susan Stang
7.30.14
I first want to state that this request is inappropriate and this discussion should be taking place at the
September meeting which was voted on. If our meetings are recorded and made available to the
public than this email discussion should also be made available.
After reviewing the Avant's surveys, reports and recommendations, I find it difficult to see how they
came up with "Neighborhood to the World". I would not be in favor of using that as a new logo.

Bwayne S. (Bwayne Smotherson)
