7.31.14
Mr. Walker/Mayor Welsch,
You should have received better than ninety-five percent of the responses from The Arts & Letters
Commissioners Of University City. It is with deep concern with myself and some others that may not
have documented this response but, requesting that we review the mention branding and given a
deadline of July 31, 2014 was a very unexpected request. My concern is that this was requested via e-
mail which is against the Sunshine Law. I did review the revised statutes of Missouri. We must abide by
Chapter 610 of that statute. We postponed our discussion regarding this matter until our September
meeting, which is a matter of public record and comments from concerned citizens. I am asking that we
follow the guidelines as instructed by the Missouri Office Of The Attorney General. In addition, we need
to have an artist review the options and give us a professional opinion with different graphics.
Neighborhood to the World is not the ideal logo for our city. We need other suggestions that is more
fitting to our city diverse community. Color scheme is not the answer. We have to be neutral.....Black &
White....more cost effective. Color is expensive. To have our envelopes, stationary, flyers,"etc" in color?
This need to be re-evaluated.
I ask that you do not present this to Council for approval when we have the Sunshine Law violation at
hand. In addition, we have previously rejected this is 2010/11? by our Traffic Commission. Now, it is
being rejected by Arts & Letters due to insufficient purpose of changing the name. Or, coming up with
something more suitable which involves the whole community at large for inclusion. We all are in favor
of change and new ideas but, we as a city need to be more constructive and all commissions to take
part in such a important reflection of our city as how we welcome them in. And a few short words such
Welcome To..............and complete the rest with dignity.
Thanking You In Advance,
Melcine Henderson
President, The Municipal Commission Of Arts & Letters Of University City Mo.
8.6.14
Logo for U.
