A
portion of one beam supporting the floor slab is severely deteriorated. A structural analysis
is needed to assure the adequacy of the reinforced concrete floor slab and supporting
steel beams to carry the recently purchased larger fire truck. Once the analysis is
completed, the firm will recommend floor repair and/or maintenance. Approximately
$31,000 was included in the Fire Department Capital Budget for FY06-07 to complete this
project.

The City sent request for proposals to eight firms. Three firms bid on this project as
follows:

William Tao & Associates $11,485
AFRAM Corp. $31,094
Burns & McDonnell $45,780
Engineer’s Estimate $14,500

RECOMMENDATION:
Award the contract to William Tao & Associates, a qualified
firm, for the structural investigation and design. AFRAM Corp. is a minority owned firm.
William Tao and Burns & McDonnell are not.
