RESOLUTION <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Senate Bill 938 has been introduced by Senators Cauthom, Childers, <br />Loudon, Russell, Klindt, Yeckel and Westfall; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the citizens of University City enjoy a high quality of life by <br />maintaining a peaceful community; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of University City recognizes that crime prevention is often <br />accomplished through the reduction of the opportunity for the commission of crime; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the passage of SB 938 allowing concealed weapons upon application <br />and approval by the County Sheriff would create opportunity for the commission of both <br />criminal and unintentional acts that would, with the potential for lethal consequences, <br />compromise public safety and the safety of police officers; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is appropriate and necessary for the Mayor and City Council of the <br />City of University City on behalf of the community and its residents to promote <br />continued quality of life. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> Section 1. The Mayor and City Council of the City of University City oppose <br />any effort to relax Missouri State Law regarding the carrying of concealed weapons by <br />the general public with a permit approved by County Sheriff, including SB 938 and other <br />similar bills. <br /> <br /> ADOPTED this 8th day of April 200~.~,X <br /> I <br /> <br />~_~eisha Me,ne Forsythe CITY CLERK <br /> <br /> <br />
