6801 Delmar Boulevard, University City, MO 63130
Phone: 314-862-6767, Fax: (314) 862-0694

CITY OF UNIVERSITY CITY
MINUTES OF THE TRAFFIC COMMISSION
MEETING ON February 11, 2004

Acting chairperson Susan Schafers called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Those present
were:

Elizabeth Schiller Mariela Tapia, Traffic Commission Secretary
Tobias Gibson Police Department representative
Melcine Henderson Loretta Bryant
Raymond Creer Arthur Sharpe, Jr. (third ward)

Patricia Merritt, Catherine Nichols and Burnic Baber were residents present representing
the request for 6500 block of Corbitt.

1.APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES FROM THE January 14, 2004 MEETING

The commission voted unanimously to approve the minutes.

2.Street Petition to make the 6500 block of Corbitt Ave, one-way going east.

Patricia Merritt stated that the residents have concerns about the excess amount of traffic
(most of it coming from Sutter) and they also have a great amount of children that play on
the street and they are concern about their safety. The street is very narrow and many
times 2 cars can not pass at the same time. The street has very few driveways and cars
have to park on the street, that add to the congestion on Corbitt. They also have a large
percentage of seniors on the street that complain about traffic noise.

Ms. Merritt talked to a couple of residents on Etzel that could be agreeable to make Corbitt,
one way street. She presented the petition to the commissioners with the signatures of
70% of the residents.

Ms. Henderson stated that the street is actually very narrow and she doesn’t see a conflict
with the traffic flow on Etzel. She thinks there is a need for the street to become one
way.

Ms. Schafers stated that the residents in nearby areas are going to be notified and should
be present to provide their comments at the March traffic commission meeting.

Mr. Sharpe mentioned to have in consideration the width of the street, the cars parked
along both sides of the street and the few amount of driveways.
V:\WP51\Mariela-Projects\Traffic Commission\minutes\2004\Minutes 2-11-04.doc
