She said that Sgt.
Whitley from the Police Dept. during the June meeting promised that the Police will
monitor the speed for Waldron/Carlyle and Quendo during June and report back for the
July meeting. She stated that during June, she saw the Police monitoring the streets
just one day from 2pm to 3:30 p.m. Therefore, the residents of Waldron/Carlyle-
Quendo were requesting that the speed limit be changed. Alternatively, the residents
could make a formal request to the City Council to help them with the speeding
problem.

St. Whitley presented a memo regarding Traffic Detail for Waldron/Carlyle. The
document shows at least 5 times of surveillance during a 4 week period. The average
speed limit is 23 miles per hour and the posted speed limit is 25 miles per hour. The
surveillance hours were between 5 and 6pm. Just one car was ticketed for speeding.
The average amount of cars was 16 per hour which is a fairly low number.

The residents recommended to the Police that they conduct surveillance during night
hours. The Police Department will continue with law enforcement and is working on
getting a “smart trailer” to record speeds.

th
2.Approval of the Minutes From the June 8 2005 Meeting

The commission unanimously approved the minutes.

V:\WP51\Mariela-Projects\Traffic Commission\minutes\2005\Minutes 7-13-05.doc
