Green Practices Commission <br />6801 Delmar Boulevard, University City, Missouri 63130, Phone: (314) 862-6767, Fax: (314) 863-9146 <br />Meeting Minutes – University City Green Practices Commission September 8, 2016 Location: Heman Park Community Center <br />Attendees Present: Lois Sechrist (Chairperson), Jenny Wendt (former Staff Liaison), Chris Kalter (staff Liaison) <br /> Absent: Scott Eidson, Bob Elgin, Tim Michels, Richard Juang, Dianne Benjamin <br /> 1. Meeting Called to Order, Roll Call at 6:02 p.m. <br /> 2. Opening Round <br />a) Jenny announced the document shreding event in conjunction with the community yard sale at the Heman Park Pool Parking Lot on September 10 from 8 – 2 pm, and the upcoming electronics recycling <br />event on October 15 from 9 – 1 at the Heman Park Community Center (975 Pennsylvania). b) Jenny introduced Chris Kalter as the new Staff Liaison. He joins University City from the St. Louis County <br />Health Department. He is a new Public Works Project Manager responsible for Park and Stormwater Projects. <br /> 3. Approval of Minutes <br />a) August 11, 2016 Meeting Minutes approval was tabled until the next meeting due to lack of quorum. <br />4. Special Presentations a) Jack Fowler and Tim Gaidis with the architectural firm HOK and Josh Barcus with the civil engineering <br />firm Stock Associates presented the Centene Project. The anticipated sustainability elements of the project include at least one green roof, native plantings, and focused attention to stormwater <br />management, with the goal of achieving LEED Gold certification. Several items reviewed on the LEED scorecard include: <br />i. Alternative transportation for visitors and employees with the building's proximity to the Forsyth Metrolink station. The project will accommodate bike riders with showers and changing facilities. <br />ii. Construction waste management that will be incorporated into the project. iii. An energy efficiency objective to achieve 18% improvement over ASHRAE 90.1 2010. <br />b) As the project is still within the early planning phases, the Green Practices Commission requested updates throughout the project to keep up with the sustainability goals of the project. <br /> 5. New Business <br />a) Non-residential Solid Waste Service requirement – University City should refer to St. Louis County’s ordinance regarding the requirement for commercial businesses to have solid waste service. <br />b) Community Education topics – table until next meeting c) Replacement Commission member options – Lois and Jenny will reach out to the Chamber of Commerce, <br />Loop Special Business District, Economic Development, and Washington University to tap interest in new Commission members. <br /> 6. Old Business <br />a) Jenny and Lois reviewed the slideshow for the City Council study session scheduled for September 26 and discussed the presentation format. <br /> 7.
