Police Department Bureaus
| The Police Department components have the following responsibilities:
BUREAU OF PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS: The Bureau of Professional Standards exist primarily to direct the Department's quest for accreditation and maintaining that accreditation status. The Bureau is responsible for maintaining and revising, as necessary, the Department's Policy and Procedure Manual. The Bureau also provides assistance to other Department Bureaus in the form of crime and traffic analysis, crime prevention and planning and research. The Bureau is responsible for administering the Victim Service Unit, which is comprised of two civilian employees who are specially trained in helping crime victims and their families deal effectively with the ravages of crime. The Bureau of Professional Standards Commander shall conduct investigations of a confidential nature in matters involving deficiencies of and accusations made against, commissioned or civilian Department Personnel.
The Bureau of Investigation shall provide assistance to the Bureau of Field Operations in the investigation of Criminal activities; Conduct such criminal investigations of offenses which require advanced skill and Training; Provide specialized, technical investigative services in specified areas of criminal activity; Assist with matters involving juveniles; Identify and investigate specific crimes such as white collar crimes, gang crimes, narcotic crimes, organized criminal crimes, and/or related incidents.
The Bureau of Field Operations shall provide for the routine, systematic patrol of the City under such patrol plans as may be adopted by the Chief of Police; Provide for the booking, custody and release of prisoner; Enforce traffic ordinances and laws; Investigate incidents, criminal and non-criminal, and make reports where necessary; Preserve the public peace; Prevent crime and arrest of offenders; Assist other governmental agencies when required; and enforce all laws and ordinances.
The Bureau of Services shall provide support services, including communications, records, facilities, supplies and materials as may be required by the various components to enable them to perform their duties. The Bureau shall be responsible for the maintenance and issuance of uniforms and equipment, stationary and other related items, Department vehicle purchase, computer equipment, radio and telephone equipment and service, maintain a good record system providing security and retrieval, and staff a communications system which will receive information, assess it, then determine the need for police service based on that assessment. The Bureau shall maintain a secure storage for property and evidence, and shall keep such records to assure the integrity and accessibility of the property or evidence.
The Record Room is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Police Reports are taken by telephone from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. To obtain a police report:
