Heman Park Community Center

 

 
The Heman Park Community Center located at 975 Pennsylvania, between Vernon and Olive Street Rd., is a multi-purpose facility available for rent except on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Eve. When not rented to private parties or organizations, the facility may be scheduled for City sponsored events and recreation programs.

The facility includes two meeting halls that can be converted to one large room.  It is equipped with a kitchen. The Community Center is available at reasonable rental rates for service, charitable, cultural, educational and private activities - such as wedding receptions and family reunions - and is accessible to the disabled.

Nonprofit organizations can also rent the Center at various reasonable rates according to the type of activity that will be held.  Reservations are taken on a first come first serve basis and must be made at least thirty days in advance.

We require a Security Deposit.  Half Hall: $100; Entire Hall: $200. This deposit is refundable if the contract scheduled times are strictly observed, there is no damage to the building or property and the hall and kitchen are restored to the condition in which it was found.  This security deposit is due 30 days in advance of reservation.  Any violation of these rules or regulations would forfeit this deposit. 

A $65 kitchen fee applies to any event providing food or drink. In case the kitchen is not available for the event, a $30 food fee will be charged, should food or refreshments be used for the event.  This allows use of the kitchen facility and ice machine.  This fee must be paid by all individuals, in addition to the facility rental rates.

A Police Fee will be required for any event where monies are exchanged on the premises OR any youth event (21 and younger) is required to have police officers attend the event. The fee is $25 per hour per officer. Half Hall: 2 Officers; Whole Hall: 4 officers.

Cancellations:

  • Cancellation must be made in person by the applicant who signed the contract.
  • Cancellation made thirty (30) days or more before the event, forfeits 20% of the total reservation fee.
  • Cancellation made less than thirty (30) days before the event, forfeits the ENTIRE reservation fee.

Rules and Regulations

  • The Heman Park Community Center is available for use seven (7) days per week (except on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Eve).  Rental hours are 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. (must be cleaned up and out be 1:00 a.m.).
  • All facility rental fees are based on a minimum four (4) hour-rental period.  YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR ANYTIME YOU ARE IN THE BUILDING (INCLUDING SET UP AND CLEAN UP).  Please plan your event accordingly.
  • All events and activities MUST conform to state and local laws.  (NO ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES PERMITTED.)
  • Youth (21 years or younger) activities MUST have adequate chaperons (25 years or older) - one (1) adult per fifteen (15) youths.  We will require signatures of chaperons thirty (30) days in advance.  We also require one (1) chaperon to check guests at the door.
  • Youth activities MUST employ two (2) off duty University City Police Officers per 1/2 hall.  This will be arranged by the City and paid by the renter.
  • We will hold all applicants monetarily responsible for ANY damages or destruction of property incurred during your scheduled event.
  • Applicants CANNOT store private property on the Heman Park Community Center premises.
  • Alcoholic beverages are not permitted in the Heman Park Community Center or on its grounds.  This rule may be waived for wedding receptions and/or similar events provided a Request of Waiver of Alcohol Ban is submitted at least thirty (30) days before the event.  MINORS MAY NOT CONSUME ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES.  For events where any fee is charged, we require State and City of University City liquor licenses and they must accompany the Request for Waiver of Alcohol Ban form.  Application and approval of both liquor licenses must be submitted at least sixty (60) days before the event.
  • An event floor plan must be submitted thirty (30) days in advance.  The tables and chairs will be set up according to your submitted plan.  We do not allow changes to the floor plan upon your arrival.
  • Reservations are taken on a first come-first serve basis.
  • The Heman Park Community Center has been designated a disaster relief center.  If a disaster should occur, we would reschedule your reservation or issue a full refund.
