Dear University City Homeowner:

Thank you for contacting us about the new Sewer Lateral Repair Program (SLRP).  To serve you better, we have designed a simple application package for you to complete when applying to the repair program.  The enclosed application must be completed prior to submitting a request of payment for the repair.

A sewer lateral carries waste from your home to the Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) main sewer.  The sewer lateral extends from your home to MSD’s main connection.  MSD does not pay for repairs to your sewer lateral or the connection, as this is the homeowner’s responsibility.  The City’s Sewer Lateral Repair Program will pay for repair or replacement of the sewer lateral, less a $300 deductible, a 10 percent co-payment of the total repair cost and any payment by the homeowner’s insurance company.  Damaged or blocked pipes located inside your home are not covered under this program.

The Sewer Lateral Repair Program applies only to residential buildings of up to six (6) units.  The program is not available to commercial or industrial property.

The program began January 1, 2000, and is limited to available funds.  No expenses incurred prior to January 1, 2000 are eligible under the program.  Once the $300 deductible and the 10 percent co-payment are met, the City’s program will cover 90 percent of the expenses specifically related to the approved repair or replacement of the sewer lateral, including excavation, repair or replacement of the sewer lateral, backfilling, pavement, seeding and strawing.  The program does not cover restoration of landscaping.  Only expenses approved by the City are covered under this program.  If you have questions, contact Lynnette Hicks at 862-6767.

 Sincerely,

Evelyn Shields-Benford
