suggested allocating half the requested amount, or, as p~u~osed by Mr. Ollen-
dorff, match/rig what U(~S spends on direct marketing for U. City North up to
$3,000. Mr. Wagner disarm=ed with the matching concept, and thought UfOS
should receive $3,500 along with the admonition that Council wants a ha~d-
hitting can~aign to publicize houses for sale in U. city North. Following ex-
tensive a~ssion, Council decided to allocate $3,500 and determJ_ne a little
later exactly how it should be s~_nt. Mr. A~ams asked that the record reflect
his "No" vote. It was expected that the contract will be ready to be acted on
by the next Council meeting, June 5th.

Buildir~ Improvement Fund. Mr. Ollendorff ~said the original allocation was
$147,000; items already included will cost $118,500, reducing the total to
$33,500 available for allocation. Items to be considered include Eastgate
Park, Kingsland p~uerty (to be stud/ed by the Park C~Lu,~ssion for park use),
and the Pershing street barricade. Mr. Wagner said he felt the Council owed
sc~thing to residents near the Pershing barricade, since this and past Coun-
cils allowed the o~,u~-rcial shopping center to develop with very inadequate
parking. He pointed out that the neighborhood was willing to maintain the
landscaping, and was asking for a m/nimal amount to erect the barrier and do
the sidewalks. He suggested $3,000. Mrs. Sc/,uman c~uletely agreed, noting
that during her campaigning, residents of other neighborhoods expressed con-
cern about t]t[s ~rea, and were afraid the same thing might happen in their
neigbl~orhood. Mayor Majerus said Mr. Ollendorff was concerned that it could
be interpreted that Council was changing policy with regard to barri.cades,
however, her feeling was that it was something the Council could do to rectify
past mistakes of this and previous Councils. Mr. Schoomer agreed, however, he
felt a portion of the cost should be borne by the neighbors, both residential
and o~,=~_ruial, and the City ~hould take the responsibility of making the curb
and street cuts. Mr. Wagner pointed out that the City could not require the
businesses there to share in the cost. ~%e Mayor suggested setting a dollar
figure, and trying to recover as much as possible. Mr. Wagner suggested that
$3,500 be made available for this project, but that the cost be kept lower if
at all possible, and the c~,~_~cial area be encouraged to donate also. All
agreed on this figure.

East~ate Park, Kinqsland-Chamberlain property. Council agreed that $30,000
would be allocated for Eastgate l>ark and the Kingsland-Chamberlain property,
with the amounts for each to be discussed later, following study by the Park
C~,Hssion.

All of the above items (less $3000 for %rdzTants, to be taken f~LL the Leg-all
Services'budget), amount to $25,521, which will be taken frc~ the Street Con-
tractual account, reducing that to $292,37.7.

Mayor Majerus adjourned the meeting at 11:02 p.m.
