SESSION 1714

MINUTES OF THE UNIVERSITY CITY COUNCIL

JANUARY 26, 1998

At a regular meeting of the City Council of University City held in the Council
Chamber of City Hall on Monday, January 26, 1998, Mayor Joseph L. Adams
called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. In addition to the Mayor, the following
members of the Council were present:

Mr. Hardy Ware
Mr. Wayne I. Munkel
Mr. Robert Wagner
Mr. Larry Lieberman
Mr. Paul E. Schoomer
Mr. Arthur Sharpe, Jr.

Also present was City Manager Frank Ollendorff.

MINUTES:

Mr. Wagner moved approval of the minutes of January 5, 1998. Mr. Sharpe
seconded the motion, which carried unanimously.

RESOLUTION - OPPOSITION TO PAGE AVE. HIGHWAY & BRIDGF PROJECT:

Mayor Adams said this resolution was further opposition to this project. Mr.
Schoomer said that he wanted to make it clear that this did not mean that Council
was opposing the City of St. Charles but the project itself, which will unnecessarily
drain the region's resources to complete and must be seriously reconsidered. The
effort by the citizens of St. Louis County to ask County government to reconsider
its decision is an important way to bring this to the front and have all the citizenry
of St. Louis County look at this problem. Our support of this measure is in no way
a challenge to St. Charles or to the other subdivision, but a request that we look at
all of these future projects from a reasonable perspective and not a purely local one.

Mr. Wagner agreed with Mr. Schoomer wholeheartedly.

Mr. Schoomer moved adoption of the resolution. Mr. Wagner seconded the motion,
which carried unanimously.
