The craft <br />show will be from 9 AM - 2 PM. The chili cook-off will be from 11 AM - 1 PM. <br />The entire community is encouraged to attend. Vendors are welcome to enroll in <br />the event as well as contestants to participate in the chili cook-off. Volunteers <br />need not have a student enrolled at Brittany Woods. Contact Patricia A. The will be <br />Wednesday, March 21 starting at 10 AM. Ochs Senior Center is located within <br />Heman Park Community Center (975 Pennsylvania). Walking route will cover <br />Olive, Midland and Vernon totaling 1.5 miles. Community and businesses can <br />sponsor a marcher or register to march for meals. Each marcher is encouraged <br />to raise $100 from sponsors. Contact Renita Lamkin to register, donate or <br />sponsor a marcher 721-2722. Funds will directly support the home delivered <br />meals program at Ochs Senior Center. <br /> <br />David Harris <br />is a highly successful international musician of many <br />genres. He returns to share his craft in student workshops at U. City <br />High School (UCHS) and other area schools March 21, 22 and 23. A <br />public reception will be held for Harris 7-9pm Thursday, March 22 in <br />Council’s Chambers, 6801 Delmar. Harris was an active participant in <br />the UCHS (class of ’76) music program, particularly the Jazz Band. <br />He is a founding member, composer and arranger for the musical <br />ensemble, Brass Planet. His music has been featured in soundtracks <br />for television commercials and in films. Harris has performed in <br />Japan, Australia and throughout Europe, including the Berlin Jazz <br />Festival. He’s also been featured in North America venues including <br />the Montreal Jazz Festival, Philadelphia Pops, Smithsonian Institute; and <br />renowned jazz clubs like the Blue Note and the Knitting Factory. On February 1, <br />Harris performed with David Byrne (of Talking Heads fame) at Carnegie Hall. A <br />graduate of New England Conservatory, Harris now lives with his wife and two <br />children outside of Boston. Since 1980, he has been a freelance artist of jazz, <br />classical, klezmer, pop and international folk music. He recently won first prize for <br />music composition from the Massachusetts Cultural Council Fellowship, having <br />also won the award in 1997. Harris’ visit is part of the U-City Municipal <br />Commission on Arts & Letters’ Returning Artist Series.
