After passing over Forest Park Parkway on the pedestrian bridge, the Centennial Greenway enters University City on the west edge of the Parkview neighborhood. The Centennial Greenway
follows the existing alley walk, known as Greenway South to Center Street. The existing walk should be improved as needed to ensure a safe and smooth surface and width that is consistent
with trail design standards. A new Centennial Greenway segment will be developed between Center and Delmar. The intent is to negotiate an easement for the trail to follow the south
side of Melville on undeveloped land between the curb and residential fences. Development of the Centennial Greenway will improve the character of the street edge by providing retaining
walls, landscape screening, street trees, and lighting, while maintaining access to individual properties. Light fixture design should be consistent with the existing lighting of Greenway
South, but should be full cut-off luminaires with house shields to minimize impact on adjacent neighbors. The final half block west of Delmar will that require five parking spaces be
eliminated to allow adequate width for the Centennial The Delmar Boulevard crossing is a critical component of the Centennial Greenway, as it will act as a point of entry into the Loop
Business District along Delmar Boulevard. The Loop is an important and vibrant asset for all citizens of the St. Louis metropolitan area and an important destination for Centennial
Greenway users. Alternative approaches should be explored to change the character of Delmar Boulevard to become more pedestrian oriented and accommodating to the Centennial Greenway.
On the north side of Delmar, the Ackert Walk Gateway should be re-configured to act as a secondary trail head that can accommodate the increased volume of pedestrians and cyclists
associated with a
regional greenway.
Greenway.
