The first phase will establish Centennial Greenway segments in the east, central and west reaches of the study area. Four priority segments will be distributed among six of the nine
municipalities through which the Centennial Greenway will ultimately pass. These SEED projects areas include Forest Park to Vernon Road in University City; Olive Boulevard from McKnight
Road in University City to Price Road in Olivette; Shaw Park near downtown Clayton to Greensfelder Park in University City following the Each segment is highly visible, and will includes
significant stretches of consolidated ownership, involves public or private entities that support the goals of the GRG, and will connect a significant number of people to existing local
and regional trail networks. Coordination with other local planning and construction activities further influenced the selection of specific project areas to Establishing the Centennial
Greenway in Forest Park is essential to educating the public about the entire River Ring, and to reveal the emerging opportunities offered by the River Ring network. This segment will
connect University City residents to the open space and cultural centers of Forest Park and the Loop, as well as improve the pedestrian link for Washington University students between
the Hilltop Campus and residences in University City. The Centennial Greenway builds upon the existing infrastructure of the pedestrian bridge over Forest Park Parkway and the existing
Ackert Walk and Greenway South trails. The crossing of Delmar Boulevard and the Ackert Gateway plaza are critical components of the Centennial Greenway and the Loop District. This
area offers an opportunity to create an identifiable heart in the Loop, where people will arrive at the Loop and access the Centennial Greenway. The outcome of ongoing discussions involving
St. Louis County and University City will determine the appropriate approach to developing a safe and controlled Delmar Boulevard pedestrian crossing. North of Delmar During Phase One,
coordination should continue with University City, St. Louis County, Washington University, the Parkview Neighborhood, and The Loop Business Association. Ongoing communication with
Washington University regarding the progress of specific projects on the Hilltop Campus and the North Campus student housing is necessary. The District should also monitor the progress
of all redevelopment projects in the Loop area to ensure the Centennial Greenway is a vital component to
Interstate 170/Metro corridor; and Creve Coeur Park to Fee Fee Road in Unincorporated St. Louis County.
the Centennial Greenway will follow the existing Ackert Walk to Vernon.
move forward into detail design in 2006.
these redevelopments.
Coordination
