Session 1830
January 28, 2002

Mr. Lieberman moved approval. Mr. Munkel seconded the motion.

Mr. Lieberman wished to congratulate Life Skills for taking this approach of soliciting in
front of businesses. This is a good deal better than going door to door. He also
supports their activities very much and wishes them good fortune.
The motion carried unanimously.

CITIZEN COMMENTS:

Hardy Ware, 1465 Forest Green Ct., said that he came up on behalf of U. City East.
Mr. Grant Shostak and Mr. Ray Reckamp, other members of the U. City Board, are
joining him this evening. Individuals from their organization have been calling about the
property at 7245 Amherst and, he believes, the City has received several requests
about taking some type of action. This is the duplex with only one entrance/exit. U City
East believes that this is a safety issue, not a BOCA code issue. U. City East requests
that the City impose a moratorium on any further residential home building with a single
entry until this matter can be researched further.

Mr. Wagner stated that the City was aware of that property and he, for one, agrees with
U. City East's concern. It seems strange to him that the BOCA code would allow a two
family house to have one common exit. He believes the Council should study changing
that and asked that the City Manager place this subject on the agenda for the next study
session. The meeting has not been set yet.

Jen Jensen, 706 Pennsylvania, said that she was here tonight as a member of Women
In the Neighborhood (WIN), an informal organization of women from University Park
Subdivision One and Two. They meet once a month to inform themselves about
neighborhood and U. City issues. They talked the last time about the duplex at 7245
Amherst and the fact that it only has one entrance/exit. They understand it meets
BOCA code, but they do not believe that it is good enough for University City. They
would like to see some steps taken to change the code so that no other buildings such
as this are not built without, at least, a firescape.

CITY CLERK'S DOCKET:

BILLS FOR SECOND AND THIRD READING:

BILL 8575 - EXTENDING THE TERM OF FRANCHISE WITH CHARTER
COMMUNICATIONS ENTERTAINMENT I, L.L.C. TO APRIL 23, 2002.

The bill was given its second reading.
The bill was given its third reading.
