Currently, approximately 20,500 cubic yards of yard
waste are stockpiled at the Ruth Park Composting Facility. The facility has
received more yard waste than usual this year due to the 2006 summer and
winter storms which caused damage to many trees, shrubs and bushes. This
has caused greater wear and tear on the city’s tub grinder than usual, resulting
in frequent equipment failures. The equipment failure problem is further
exacerbated because spare parts are hard to obtain due to the age of the
equipment and limited number of vendors supplying specialized parts.

BID RESULTS:
Company Price ($/cu.yd) Total
Organic Resource Management $1.53 $31,220.00
Hansen’s $1.55 $31,581.25
White Oak $1.75 $35,656.25
Existing Quantity 20,375 cubic yards

RECOMMENDATION:
Accept the lowest bid from Organic Resource
Management in the amount of $1.53 per cubic yard for tub grinder services for
the existing and additional yard waste stockpiles throughout the year.
June 18, 2007
