Session 1835
March 18, 2002

Ms. Evelyn Irving, 1443 78th St., said that she has been a resident for thirty-eight years.
She stated that she was interested in commenting on the Chinatown proposal. She
said that she went to one of their meetings and heard their constitution and by-laws.
She feels that their constitution and by-laws exclude the residents of University City.
Also, why do we need a Chinatown Business District? That area on Olive is already
saturated with Chinese businesses. Why do we need to label it? No other area in U.
City has been labeled. We are multi-cultural, multi-faceted and no one has had to
section it off into a particular race of people. She asked about the one-door issue. She
didn't understand this issue. Mayor Adams explained this issue to Ms. Irving.

REQUEST FOR LEGISLATION:

Mr. Lieberman asked that legislation be prepared dealing with the non-uniformed
employees pension board recommendations.

ADJOURNMENT:

Mayor Adams reminded everyone about the election April 2 and requested everyone to
do their civic duty and get out and participate by voting. He further announced that the
next Council meeting would be on Monday, April 8, 2002 at 7:30 p.m.

Mayor Adams adjourned the meeting at 8:12 p.m.

Yola da Luckett, City C er ro em
