Solid Waste Management Program <br />During budget discussions regarding the , there <br />became awareness for the need to increase refuse collection rates to maintain the <br />current level of service. Reductions were also made to expenditures to reduce program <br />costs. A schedule is also attached which details actual revenue and <br />expenditures for this program for FY 03 through FY 07, along with long-term projected <br />revenue and expenditures for FY 09 through FY 16 <br /> <br /> Task Force on Code Enforcement <br />The Community Development Departmentand the <br />and Inspections <br /> held a public forum on code enforcement Thursday night. The <br />consensus appeared to be for more stringent enforcement and higher penalties for <br />offenders. The idea of increasing fines and holding court more often to result in quicker <br />resolution was suggested, as well as more stringent enforcement on repeat offenders <br />including home foreclosure. Issues were also raised with the requirements for licensed <br />contractors for electrical and plumbing, and the need to “grandfather” historic non- <br />compliant infrastructure. <br /> <br />National Night Out Against Crime - Tues., August 7th from 6-10 PM at Heman <br />Park, 7210 Olive. <br />Join us for an evening of events consisting of an opening ceremony <br />with Color Guards (Police Officers and Firefighters) at 6:15 and Mr. McGruff from 7-8 <br />PM. Food and drinks provided will be hot dogs, burgers, water, and soda. Focus <br />Group Members, police officers, and Councilmen Price and Sharpe will cook and serve <br />the food and drinks. There will be informational tables with CERT, Crime Prevention, <br />DARE, and Victims Services information. The police department will give away gun <br />locks. The Fire Department will provide the Safe House. Glow sticks and NNO <br />armbands will be provided to attendees. There will be entertainment including a DJ, <br /> <br />
