Session 1844
June 17, 2002

order that legislation be prepared for introduction.

Ms. Colquitt asked about signage and exactly what was meant by "crude" and
"amateurish". Mr. Ollendorff said that the signs must be decent and professionally
lettered. There is a detailed explanation in the ordinance. The whole idea is not to
allow signs that someone just threw together.

Mr. Munkel asked if the garage changes would be relating to the building of new
garages which can't be more than 15 feet in height. Mr. Ollendorff said that Mr. Munkel
was correct. As far as existing garages go, it could not be built up or added on to after
the fifteen feet. Mr. Munkel said that he believes that this will be alright for single car
garages, but in larger lots, where two or three car garages may be built, limiting it to
fifteen feet might cause a problem with the construction and limit a builder's discretion in
determining the pitch of the roof.

Mr. Munkel would also like to receive a recommendation from the Historic Preservation
Commission on how they will work around the demolition time review in light of meeting
once of month. He would like to know what they would prefer before making any
changes to this section.

Mr. Lieberman said that he was currently the liaison to the Historic Preservation
Commission and they would be meeting tomorrow night. He offered to take these items
to the HPC meeting and allow them to review the changes. Mr. Ollendorff said that he
believes that they have seen the text changes. He believes that it is routine that any
zoning amendments must go to the HPC for their review. This should have happened
several months ago. He will double check. Mr. Ollendorff said that the current practice
is that as soon as the city gets a demolition permit, we immediately notify each member
of the HPC. We ask them if anyone wants a permit held up for any reason. If thero is
not any questions, then we issue the permit. It is only when there are questions, that
the HPC meets. In any case, he will get the Council some more information on this
proposal.

The public hearing ended at 7:46 p.m.

(Added) AGENDA ITEM #3 - LIQUOR LICENSE AT 6633 DELMAR:

Mr. Wagner moved to add item #3 to the agenda. Mr. Sharpe seconded the motion,
which carried unanimously.

City Council may approve the issuance of a license to sell all types of alcoholic
beverages by the drink since the new owner appears to meet all ordinance
requirements. This license was issued to the current Tomatillo owners over two years
ago and no violations have been reported.

5
