Mr. McDermott became reacquainted with the game of golf at Ruth Park. He encouraged
support of the learning center /driving range as it a beautiful asset to University City.

Larry Mass, 8131 Balson Ave.
Mr. Mass has already sent written letters to the Council. He said the learning
center/driving range offers University City a unique opportunity to be able to be self-
supporting by enhancing the use of the park and its programs.

Mary Hart, 6901 Cornell
Ms. Hart explained how she did not have an interest in golf until she learned of the
possible opening of a learning center/driving range. She felt that presently, the golf course
is not open to her learning or for her daughter to be able to join her.

D-1-h
Michelle Mufson, 1008 Laval Dr.
Ms. Mufson lives on the golf course and has just taken lessons with Ron Akins but does
not feel comfortable playing yet. She would love a driving range in which she could
practice. Ms Mufson would encourage a closing time of 9:30 p.m.

Max Gornish, 1019 Laval Dr
Mr. Gornish learned the game of golf as a youth at Ruth Park. He said the practice area
presently can safely only accommodate one person at a time.

Harold Schafer, 6912 Waterman Ave.
Mr. Schafer loves playing golf at Ruth Park and would love a place to hit balls instead of
having to drive to another community. He mentioned examples of fine youths that were
brought up through Ruth Park Golf training.

Darrell Ward, 8600 Richard Court
Mr. Ward learned to play golf at Ruth Park. He is one that presently uses the free practice
area but would support a driving range/learning center so more could be accommodated.
Mr. Ward agreed that the group of fifteen did resent any intruders using “their” practice
area and would welcome the driving range/learning center to be more inclusive of letting
more practice the game of golf.

M. COUNCIL COMMENTS
Mr. Glickert asked the City Manger to describe what is taking place concerning all of the
boxes of print material located in front of University City Library.

Ms. Ricci stated that she has sent to the Council her minutes taken from the Historic
Preservation Commission she attends as Council liaison and would hope other Council
liaison members would do the same in order for Council to stay informed. She would like
to receive the minutes so she would become aware of what the commissions might be
considering.

August 20, 2007
