Ms. Brot’s motion to amend bill before introduction was seconded by Mr. Wagner and
was approved unanimously.

L. CITIZEN COMMENTS
Larry Mass, 8131 Balson
Mr. Mass is a Ruth Park golfer. He was present to support the addition of a driving
range/learning center to the present golf course.

Steven Goldstein, 712 Swarthmore Lane
Mr. Goldstein wanted to show his support of the driving range/learning center. He
addressed the email that he sent to the Council where he listed a more detailed
description of his reasons for support.

Stanford Carp, 911 Barnard College Lane
Mr. Carp was in favor of the proposed driving range/learning center. He remarked about
the children at the golf course on Tuesdays learning how to play and how a few may
possibly even earn a college scholarship by playing golf.

Mike Molloy, 8130 Teasdale Ave.
Mr. Molloy believes the driving range/learning center will project a positive cash flow and
its up-side economic potential merits consideration from the Council.

Emerson Wade, 7500 Melrose
Mr. Wade was present to address unruly patrons at the “club” in the 7500 block of
Melrose. He complained of drag racing, drinking on the lot and trash flowing onto
neighboring properties. Mr. Price said he would contact Mr. Wade for farther information.
Mayor Adams also said that he would check into it.

Mary Ann Zaggy, 6303 McPherson
Ms. Zaggy spoke of her disappointment of the City’s handling of the Heman Park Pool
lifeguards’ dismissals. She requested a meeting be set up with Council, lifeguard
representatives, and city management, where these issues could be discussed.

Stephen Kraft, 7275 Creveling Dr.
Mr. Kraft thought that the lifeguards were not properly educated about the legal and
safety issues of someone being injured in an un-authorized party. Secondly,
management mishandled the investigation. Thirdly, he stated that University City went to
the media with personnel issues.

Nick Frederiksen, 420 N. Hanley
Mr. Frederiksen was present to speak on the process of how the City handled the release
of some lifeguards. He also spoke to the possibility of the pool not being safe due to lack
of adequate staff after the lifeguards’ releases.

Rosalyn Borg, 7820 Cornell
Ms. Borg stated that she felt the firing of the lifeguards was too lenient and they should
have been held more accountable.
