Session 1859 <br />November 4, 2002 <br /> <br />During discussion, Mr. Lieberman asked if that property was currently on the tax roll and <br />noted that there were five apartments being rented in that building. The City Manager <br />said that since the apartments are rented to their clients, the owners could be eligible for <br />tax relief but was a determination made by the County. <br /> <br />The Mayor then called the question and the motion was carried unanimously. <br /> <br />AGENDA ITEM #4 - MELTING POT LIQUOR LICENSE: <br /> <br />Mr. Ollendorff reported a request to transfer a liquor license from a previous owner to <br />new owner for the Melting Pot restaurant at 6683 Delmar. He stated that the police <br />report had just been received and gave it to the Council for review. He summarized that <br />no negative information had been found in the applicant's background and, after council <br />reviewed the report, he was recommending approval. <br /> <br />Councilmember Colquitt asked if a waiting period was applicable; the City Manager <br />responded that the policy had not been traditionally applied to transfers. <br /> <br />Mr. Lieberman noted that the new owner had no experience with a liquor business, <br />employed a general manager who has, and asked if a background report been <br />conducted on her. Mayor Adams commented that he had the same question but the <br />owner is always held responsible. The City Manager called for the applicant to come <br />forward. <br /> <br />The applicant, Michael Hobbs, thanked the Council for considering his application and <br />said that the current manager, Louisa Fordyce, has managed the Melting Pot for the last <br />2 years and has not had any infractions to his knowledge. <br /> <br />The motion to adopt was made by Ms. Colquitt, the second by Mr. Lieberman and was <br />carried unanimously. <br /> <br />The City Manager welcomed Mr. Hobbs to the Loop and thanked him for his confidence <br />and investment in University City. <br /> <br />CITIZENS COMMENTS: <br /> <br />David Kennell, 1332 Purdue Avenue, stated that he has resided there for 41 years and <br />wanted to inform the Council about hearings which were held about the spraying of <br />pesticides targeted to kill adult mosquitoes associated with West Nile Virus. He said <br />that these hearings raised some serious health concerns. He stated that the active <br />ingredient, Promethrin, is a toxin that kills all insects, many fish and natural predators of <br />the mosquitoes. This category of compounds had been studied for health effects and <br />was the only pyrethrite listed by the Environmental Protection Agency as a potential <br />carcinogen. It is also a neurotoxin that affects the human immune system and is an <br /> <br /> <br />
