Sponsored by the Sue Shear Institute for <br />Women in Public Life, this two-day workshop will prepare participants for the 2008 <br />campaign election cycle and will teach organization and communication skills that can <br />be applied every day. Faculty members include Democratic and Republican women <br />who have held elective office and managed successful political issues and candidate <br />campaigns. The workshop will be held on the campus of the UM-St. Louis on Friday <br />evening and all-day on Saturday. This special two-day training costs $75 (for <br />registration before Oct. 25). Participants interested in applying for a scholarship should <br />submit a cover letter with their registration explaining their financial need. A <br />highlight of the meeting will be the presentation of awards for Outstanding Local <br />Government Achievement. We have submitted an application for U-City-In-Bloom to <br />receive an award for Public/Private partnerships. We should hear back regarding the <br />designation on October 18. In addition to the luncheon meeting, two morning sessions <br />focusing on regional public safety are being offered. The session: “How Safe Are We? <br />A Report Card on Regional Security” will be held from 8:30 – 9:45 AM, followed by an <br />equipment show-and-tell from 10 – 11:30 AM. The second session: ”Re-Thinking Risks <br />of Flooding in St. Louis: Are We Safe Enough?” will be held from 10 – 11:30 AM. Please <br />register no later than Nov. 9.
